Hi everyone,

Could someone help me here pls... Police clearance from the country where I used to live. Do I need to send it now with my CEC application or later when they asked for it after I have a file number? I went to the Buffalo website and it says don't send it till we receive a file number. I don't know what to do. Police clearance takes a while, I do have my fingerprints from the Comissionaires here in Canada and will send it along with my application.

Thank you very much in advance.

I couldn't find this anywhere on the CIC Buffalo website - can you post the link to the page?

It is generally true that you submit the PCCs with the application, but you have to follow the instructions for each country. There are a small number of countries where the procedure is different (e.g. Mexico), so no one can properly advise you without knowing which country the PCC is from.

You do NOT send fingerprints with the CEC application. See the document check list -

Based on the other thread you started, I'll assume we're talking about a PCC from Colombia. CIC instructions state:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/central-south-amer/colombia.asp

Colombia

Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?
Yes, you need to provide a background verifications certificate. However, do not apply for the background verifications certificate before obtaining a file number from the visa office.
.
.
The response will be sent directly to the CIC office processing your application. Please ensure that the name of the visa office is included on the payment slip as per instructions.

(BTW - this is from the main CIC website, not Buffalo's)
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/central-south-amer/colombia.asp

So, following directions, you cannot submit the PCC with the application.

What I suggest - include a cover letter with your application, stating that you know you need to provide a PCC from Colombia. State that, according to instructions, you need your file number before you can apply for the PCC, and that it will be sent directly to Buffalo.

HI JES_ON,

Thank you for your reply. You are right it's from CIC website not Buffalo. I was just referring to that and that's why not sure whether to send it with my application or later. I'm actually in the process of applying for Police Clearance from Colombia b/c I wanted to send it altogether to avoid delays. If I don't send the Clearance together I'm not sure whether they will be able to find out my file number and send it to the Buffalo immigration office...

What do you think?

I'm not sure what to say - the instructions are there, but you don't want to follow them..?

What SHOULD happen, according to instructions, is:

1) You apply to CIC. You do not submit a PCC for Colombia at this time.

2) If your application is complete (with the exception of the PCC), CIC will send you an "AOR" or acknowledgement of receipt of your application, which will include your file number.

3) Once you receive your file number, you can apply for the PCC from Columbia. The only way they can get the file number is if you give it to them.

4) They send the PCC directly to CIC.

CIC provides no information on how to apply for a Columbian PCC without the file number, so I have no idea if it is even possible. If it IS possible, they will have to send the PCC to you, and you would then forward it to CIC once you have your file number. Even so, this may not be the same type of certificate that CIC is requesting, so you would end up spending more time and money, not less. I personally suggest following CIC's instructions.

Thank you!

By the way Jes_ON I need to ask something else... I just post a new topic on the forum...

About the civil status document...I've never been married or common law, do I need to send one to certify that I've never been married or have lived in common law?

Thanks a lot
