Whats the difference between SOP (statement of purpose) and LOE (Letter of explanation) ? Both are same?

The theme of a SOP is geared more towards the first time visa applicants. In this case, the applicant will more likely talk about how the advance studies is going to complement past academics and how it will brighten up the future career scope. In addition, various other topics will be addressed such as capability to finance studies & living cost, why particular program, why Canada, why particular institution etc...

The theme of a LOE is geared more towards the re-applicants (after their visa has been rejected in past). In this case, the applicant will start first-half of the letter by explaining what went wrong in previous applications and on what ground it was rejected. How those issues are addressed in the present application. In the later part of the letter the usual SOP stuff goes in.

so is this mean, in re-application, addition of SOP is not required ? just adding the SOP details in the later part of LOE will work ?
Well for my re-application I submitted a LOE that mainly targeted the points on previous refusal and I also submitted a detailed SOP. In my opinion that’s the best way to do it

Sure, so my first application was rejected on basis of Purpose of visit. Thats usually an indication that you need to construct a stronger SOP, so I did that. In my LOE I mainly focused on explaining how my course would equip me with the necessary skills to come back home and get a job. I mentioned things like where the industry in my profession is headed towards and how my course would increase my job opportunities.

Second application was rejected on basis of Insufficient funds. I had provided bank statements and receipts that proved my sponsor had over CAD$60,000 for my studies but that seemed to not be enough to them. So in my LOE I explained what kind of job my sponsor had and the businesses they run to prove that my sponsor has as steady income and is able to provide funds for me, not just for my first year but for the whole duration of my stay. I also included employment letters, pay stubs and business receipts as evidence.

Hope that helps.
