I just submitted my application for sponsoring my Irish husband (outland, his application will be processed in London, England). I have been notified by canada post that our package has been delivered to CIC Mississauga. Will I get confirmation from CIC Miss that they have received our package? Or will they just notify me when I am approved/not approved to be a sponsor?

I am a student, so I have no income. I have been reassured by my lawyer and many others that I do not need to meet financial requirements. I am still very nervous to go through this process and am anxious to hear something from CIC. I just want this to go smoothly and quickly!

It was a month after arrival at CIC-Miss. before a decision was made on our sponsorship and we are still waiting for the letter telling us what the decision is. When did your application arrive?

Mississauga doesn't send a letter saying they received the application. The first time you'll hear from them is when your sponsorship will be either approved or rejected, they will send you (the sponsor) a letter about it.
You can try loging in to e-cas in the mean time (using your details and the receipt number). It usually takes about a month for you to be able to do so - the application doesn't show up in the system until they actually start processing it. Once they do, they often finish processing on the same day.

London sometimes sends an AOR letter saying they received the app, but not always. So your husband might not hear from them until they need something from him, hopefully the passport for the visa.

i sent our application on September 9th and Canada post is telling me it arrived on the 10th. kind of scary only having this confirmation from Canada post!! what details do i use to log into e-cas? receipt number? i think i remember reading somewhere that checking your application before one month may slow the process down? but i also may be dreaming this

no, you cannot slow down something that hasn't been started yet. feel free to log into e-cas as many times as you wish to, but keep in mind that they will start processing your case somewhere around the month time after they receive it
good luck

haven't you received the letter from Mississauga yet? They might have mailed it to a wrong address

another question.. when i log into ecas, do i use my (the sponsor's) information? or my husband's (perm res)? also, i assume if i use my info to log in, i will use my maiden name because it is the name that appears on my birth certificate (identity document)

thanks!

Yes, use your info.

It takes CIC Mississauga one month before they even open your envelope. They are very backlogged. So don't expect an ecas update until about 4 weeks from now.

I am also sponsoring my husband from Ireland! Our file is in London now.

Best of luck to you!
