What will happen to my GIC?

I've obtained a GIC from CIBC and my classes are scheduled to begin on Sep 7th. Since I have not received my Visa yet, I will be beginning my studies online from my home country. Is there anything I should do to inform CIBC about my status or can I let it be and visit the bank directly when I go in January?

No need to inform them. You can visit CIBC after you arrive in January.
