Hi there!

I am from Sweden and received a job offer to work on a organic farm in Yukon. I am in the process of applying for a working visa, but I have a problem.

I am filling out the imm1295 form, and I am not sure what work permit I am applying for! There is a choice between Exemption from Labour Market Impact Assessment, Labour Market Impact Assessment, Open Work Permit, or Other.

The job duration is roughly five months. Does anyone know what type of work permit I should be getting?

Normally you need an approved LMIA from your employer to apply for a work permit. Have you confirmed that you are LMIA exempt? That would be the first step.

I just asked them about LMIA. How does one go about confirming that I am LMIA exempt? Do I just talk to my employer? As I have understood it, I should either provide a LMIA number or a Proof of Employment number.

Thank you all for your answers! I will be applying for an open work permit by the looks of things then. :)

If you're referring to the IEC - then no. You have to submit a profile through the IEC program first and wait to be selected.

1. I would take a guess the OP is referring to the WWOOFERs where you work on an organic farm for room and board only. See: https://wwoof.net/fowo/
2. Note without a work permit, maximum 4 weeks on non commercial farm. As the IEC is closed for 2021 will have to see if it opens in 2022
