My case is a bit special and I really need some help with it. I came back to Canada under H&C reasons (removed as a minor) with no SIN, OHIP, etc. My parents didn't apply for it before we left. Now, I've submitted my PR Card Renewal Application so I can get my SIN and start working. I've been in Canada for a little over a month now and I'm a bit worried about how long this application is going to take.

My question is, is there a temporary permit I can acquire to allow me to get an SIN so I could at least work while waiting for my PR Card?

do you have a landing document that shows your PR status? if so, you *should* be able to use that to obtain a sin number. the PR card is not actually required. it can be either your landing document or pr card. Same with OHIP. There are alternative documents you can use to prove your PR status. The service ontario and service canada websites will have that information for you.

What documentation did you use to enter canada to prove your PR status?

OP could have only used their COPR to apply for a SIN within one year of landing. As it has been about 5 years or so since OP landed, the actual PR card is required to get a SIN.

oh I see, thanks for the info. interestingly enough, this does not seem to be true for OHIP. There is no mention of the COPR needing to be within a certain timeframe on the document list, so assuming the OP has the other required documentation, he might be able to apply for OHIP without the PR card.
