Hi,

My name is Noopur and I am from India. I just finished my Master's degree in Computer Science from Robert Gordon University in Scotland. I am planning to work in Canada as a software developer. What kind of Visa do I need to work in Canada? Also what are the processing time for the Visa?

Thanks,
Noopur

First you need to find an employer in Canada who is willing to offer you a full time job. Once you have found an employer, that employer will need to obtain an approved Labour Market Opinion (LMO). As part of this process, the employer will need to advertise the job for at least one full month to prove that no Canadian could be found for the role and prove that a foreign worker needs to be hired. Once the one month advertising requirement has been met, the employer will then apply for the LMO. Processing times for the LMO are 6-20 weeks. Once the LMO has been approved, you can then apply for a closed work permit. Processing times for closed work permit can be found here:

Overall, you're probably looking at a processing time of at least 6 months for the visa - maybe more.

Your very first step is to find an employer in Canada who is willing to offer you a full time job.
