Generally just for the applicant.

Think about your situation and see if there are any red flags. Is there a big age difference between you? Culture/religion difference? Have either of you previously been married, do you have kids? Has your husband ever applied for a TRV to come to Canada? Have you ever sponsored a different spouse?

This will give you an idea of what they will concentrate on at the interview. When they ask the questions above, obviously they don't know most of the answers. They are looking for your husband's responses, is he shooting out the answers as if he has them memorized? It's best if he can stay conversational. It is odd in many cultures for men to tell strangers about how much they love their life, but he will have to let his guard down and be honest, truthful and sincere with his answers so they will see the love he has for you. Body language, etc. all have a part in an interview.

Well then just replace the world Husband with yourself in my above post! Your husband won't be at the interview, just you. If there is some major discrepacny they may call him in Canada, but as far as I know this doesn't happen very often.

Again, it's not as important what the answers are, as how you answer the questions.

Thanks for your good wishes...good luck to you too!

Usually they only ask for the applicant, but if the sponsor shows up too, sometimes they will interview him or her (separately, to make sure the answers match).

It is best if the sponsor does not show up. Basically, it's double the chance to screw up. Check out canadianwoman's story and you will see that by showing up for her husband's interview, it caused more problems.

Yeah, the sponsor shouldn't go to the interview. If they want to talk to the sponsor, let them phone.
In the interview they will ask a lot of questions designed to see if you know about your sponsor's life. Basically, they are just going by what is in the application, in most cases, so look over the application and make sure you know the information well. They will want to see that you know what your sponsor does for a job, and what he does in his spare time. Know the names of his friends and family.

I disagree, I think you should strongly consider having your sponsor there depending on your specific situation. In my case, my wife and I both felt that my presence in the waiting room gave the IO greater confidence in her application. I introduced myself to him and he said he'd call me in if needed but eventually did not. He also asked my wife if she had my passport with him and as she did, he reviewed it quickly and said he was already quite sure of the genuineness of the marriage beforehand but just had a few questions.

I think if you're confident that your sponsor's presence will add value, you should consider having him or her there.

@canadianwoman

I read all of your posts I am so sorry to hear what you had been thru. And it made me wonder about the other appeals. So I went thru the Canlii and it is so interesting that most of the appeals are from China or India. And I have noticed that, beside the interview, hearings count much more.

there were lot of appeals in 2009 but there arent many in 2010. your case seem to me more reliable than the other cases on the appeal and even some of them are allowed. I am almost sure that your appeal will be allowed. the only frustration is, it takes over a year!! thats so upsetting.

I wish all the best for you and your husband. I know it is not easy but just try to be patient and focus on your appeal.

Yes, I've found that Canlii is very interesting reading. I also think my husband's case is more solid than many of the other cases that were allowed, so I'm hoping, but it really did not look good in the courtroom.
