it is the document issued by CIC requesting you to submit lots of documents to prove your past years residency. once you get issued with RQ, your citizenship processing time will be pretty much around 3 years.

I hear alit about the resident questionnaire, the RQ, what is it exactly
RQ means: Residence Questionnaire. It is a few pages of documents (like as extended version of application form). There is total 24 section of information field which an applicant has to fill up which includes Background info, Absence from Canada, Home and Family Ties, Education Ties, Employment Ties, Property and Businesses inside and outside Canada and Others.

RQ issues by CIC for many reason when an officer is not satisfied with an applicant's file (routine process). It could be applied less than 1095 days, discrepancies on calculation of residence, extensive travel with prolong absence and reason for travel is not seems to be credible to CIC, passport discrepancies and others. The main reason is for issuing a RQ is to verify that an applicant has met the residence condition and has enough ties with Canada and not intended to acquire Canadian citizenship for passport convenience.

If an RQ is issued, applicant has to provide piles of documents for last 4 years such as: Bank statements, Credit Card Statements, Work, Business, Property documents, Bills, Medical records, Children birth and education documents etc.

As per CIC it takes about 24+ months total processing time while a routine application (w/o RQ) is likely 12-18 month. However, applicants from 2014 will find less RQ due to changes in from in Feb, 2014 where applicant will provide more supporting documents for work/education. So, all we can hope that if the applicant has it's case in order unlikely will get the RQ. Also 2014 onward CIC is processing applications faster to eliminate backlogs. Even anyone receives RQ may not take that long compare to earlier years..

Hi,
Which office usually requests the RQ? is it Sydney or the local office?
once the application is transferred to the local office, is it possible that they request the RQ ? I am not sure what it means when the file is transferred to the local office? what type of process is involved by the local office?

thanks!

some docs can be used instead of others no flight ticket or boarding pass, u can provide copies of stamped pages or CBSA report. No pay stubs, u may have T4 or employment letter or bank statement with salary deposit records. No lease, u can provide letter from ur ex landlords or copies of cheques u paid rent with and so on. Also when they ask for documents , they always say, I think , if you don't have one please explain why and you can give a reason. Finally, the more docs u have the more solide is your file.

you can get a RQ at any stage of the process even after the test and the interview. Once you receive an invitation for Oath then you can say" thank God I'm safe"

Well if there is documentary convincing evidence. 1st and foremost evidence will be a holding of continuous valid passport with initial date of entry date to Canada as PR with stamps. Other evidence work documents, Rent etc will be the other proof of residence.. Also as I find many poster reported CIC targets few county residence on RQ issues which means any small issues may cause RQ..
