I applied for pr under sinp. Just dropped off my pasport at the embassy yesterday. What I'd like to know is if I get married, will my husband automatically be eligible for an open work permit? Or will he have to apply for a regular work permit on his own?

Since I will be a pr, won't I automatically be able to work? I won't need a work permit.

Hi Jadianna,

Remember I said to ask me any questions that you have, I am doing alot of research myself trying to get myself permanent so I come across alot of info and am happy to help a fellow Jamaica. Is your daddy cleared yet??? Here is some info from the CIC site, you should visit it.

Who can apply for an open work permit?

The following persons may apply for an open work permit:

You have asked for refugee status in Canada and
you are waiting for the Refugee Protection Division (RPD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada to decide on your claim and
you cannot pay for your basic needs without working.
The RPD has turned down your refugee claim
but the Government of Canada is not yet ready to remove you from the country and
you cannot pay for your basic needs without working.
Your application for permanent residence has been approved in principle under one of these categories:
spouse or common-law partner in Canada,
live-in caregiver
humanitarian and compassionate grounds or
you are a family member of one of the above.
You have a study permit and you cannot pay for your basic needs without working, for reasons beyond your control.
You have a temporary resident permit valid for at least six months.
You are participating in
the Canada World Youth Program or
an International Experience Canada Program.
You are a family member of a foreign representative.
You are a family member of a foreign military member who is working in Canada.
You do not need an LMO and you are covered by a reciprocal arrangement, such as International Experience Canada or Canada World Youth.
You are a professional athlete allowed to enter Canada and you need to do other work to support yourself while playing for a Canadian team.
Your spouse is
a skilled worker,
a foreign student or
in Canada under a federal-provincial/territorial immigration agreement, including through active pilot projects.
You are a dependent child of someone who is in Canada under a temporary foreign worker annex of a federal-provincial/territorial immigration agreement.
