What if I get denied Canada Experience?

I'm currently in Canada with my Canadian girlfriend as a visitor and we are soon to get an apartment together. In December I will apply for the CE programme in order to be able to work and support us both. The experience programme has a limited amount of places to give each year, so if I was to be refused what would I do then? Basically I am hedging all my bets on this experience programme until I can prove we have been living together for a year to get sponsorship. Josh :)

If you're refused then you can keep extending your status as a visitor and remain in Canada without working.

Alternatively you can try to find an employer who is willing to offer you a full time job and also willing to go through the LMIA (formerly LMO) process. If the employer can get an approved LMIA, you can then apply for a work permit tied to that specific employer.

Alternatively you can get married and apply immediately as a married couple rather than waiting for common law.

By the way... I think what you're planning on applying for is the IEC visa (International Experience Canada). CE isn't a recognized acronym.

CEC (Canadian Experience Class) is an immigration program for those who have at least one year of full time work experience in Canada.

Sorry yes I'm going for for the international experience canada programme. I can imagine that many people apply for it and plenty get refused. I'd personally love to just stay and not work, but I can't afford it and wouldn't be much of man ifI just lives of my girlfriend.

I don't think there are that many refusals for IECs once an applicant is accepted. The bigger issue is that spaces for some countries run out quickly and people don't even have a chance to apply before all of the spaces are taken. If you are from the UK, you have your work cut out for you. I think all of the spaces for the UK intakes were taken in less than 1/2 hour this year. Good luck.

So how would I apply and make sure my application gets through?

Apply as soon as they start accepting applications. The trick is that there really isn't much advance notice that I'm aware of. So it's more dumb luck than anything else. Come the end of the year, you should be checking the IEC site for updates several times a day. You should also search this forum for this year's IEC discussions (I think they are in the Foreign Workers section of the forum). This will give you an idea of what others did and how quickly spaces were taken.

If you are in fact from the UK, I would have a back up plan since it seems to be so difficult to snag a spot.

What possible back up plan could I have? It's a while yet until my partner can sponsor me. What makes me laugh is that my partner and her friend got UK work visa's as easy as anything.

What I mentioned above:

1) Marry your partner so that you can be sponsored sooner.
2) Find an employer in Canada who is willing to offer you a full time job and is able to obtain an approved LMIA. Nothing stopping you from going with this option immediately.

Marriage might be out of the question right now haha. Her dad works for an oil firm so maybe he could help me out. I figure I can last tithe end of January in terms of money.
