What happens to work permit if passport needs to be renewed?

Hi,

I have a valid work permit that expires until the end of September 2018, but my passport expires before my WP at the end of August 2018.
I will be making a 1 week trip back to my country (Mexico) in May and I was wondering if I could use that opportunity to renew my passport, but will that affect my work permit since it will end up having my old passport number? Or should I not renew it and do it directly with Mexico´s embassy here in Canada when I come back from my trip? I am worried that I might have issues entering the country again if my passport is near the expiry date.

1, Well someone screwed up when issuing the WP, it shouldnt have been issued to expire later than the expiry date of your passport.
2. Renew your passport the easiest way, just keep a copy of the old one, your WP will remain valid with a new passport
