Hi can anyone tell me what they do in Canada, to check financial background if sponsoring spouse?
How do they check to make sure you are not on welfare?
Do they contact your employer?

I have worked at 2 short term jobs in the past 5 years, other than that I am not working, going to school. Will they contact the school to find out details?

Please let me know what they do in the 1 month time the application is in Canada.

The only person they're concerned about as far as financial soundness is the sponsor - they will verify that the sponsor is not ineligible due to being on social assistance. How they do that, I'm not sure - but they can probably get the information through Canada Revenue Agency. To my knowledge they don't contact employers. The sponsor is required to submit their most recent Option C printout and a letter from the employer verifying the date of employment, position and salary, so as long as that's submitted with the application, and it's a current letter, they probably don't call to verify it.

Remember, there is no minimum income requirement for sponsoring a spouse. They will be concerned about whether or not you are going to be able to support this person - therefore, the concern about having a job - because they don't want you to have to collect social assistance in order to support a sponsored partner.
