Hi everyone

I had to go back to Europe for family matters last fall (The Netherlands) while my pr card was expired, during that period i had applied for a new one, which came in a month later (unfortunately).
Before i traveled i went to the local immigration office to check if my new card had come in yet and while i was there i asked if i needed a traveldocument to reenter Canada, i had heard something about that.
The immigration officers thought that a valid passport should be enough, but they weren't sure.
Unfortunately for me the timing to pickup my new pr card is not good, which have to do before the end of april this year, and then there's also the traveldocument issue, i don't feel like going through more hassle if i don't need to.
I'm not ready to go back to Canada yet, but if i have to i could get a planeticket just to pickup my new pr card.
Who can answer my questions through hands on experience?
Normally people from Holland do not nead any kind of visa to visit Canada (with returnticket).
Does your PR status stop if you do not pickup your new card, or can you reapply for a new one?

Hi,
If you do not pick up the card at the Local CIC within 180 days, the card is returned to CPC-Sydney to be destroyed and file is considered abandoned, you will need to re‑apply.

Read the complete procedure:

The PR card has nothing to do with your status as permanent resident.
