What happens if plan changes?

Hi. I just sent my passport to the visa center in ottawa to get my visa stamped. When I submitted my travel plan, I mentioned that I wanted to visit Canada from 3/4 to 3/8, but now I have some emergency coming up around that day and won't be able to come to Canada. I wonder if it's ok if I applied for a Canada visa but won't visit there at all?

Will this also affect if I plan to apply for a study permit in the near future?

Hi. Thanks for your response. So It doesn't matter if I only apply for a visitor visa and just leave it there? My chance of getting a study permit is still the same as others?
