What happens after?

Hi, I am wondering what happens after we get our work permits and travel to Canada and start working there.
I've been reading cases where the work permit validation expires and also the LMO validation expires and people have to leave Canada.

1- Does LMO really have a validation date?
2- How do we "refresh" the work permit without having to leave Canada or the job there? Do we apply for a new one? If so, when?
3- What is an "A-LMO"?

1. Yes, LMO does have a validation date and at max that can be 4 years.
2. If your temp work permit was for less than 4 years, you can apply for extension before expiry. If you switch job, you would need a new LMO and work permit. However, it cannot go beyond 4 years (except some specific professions / circumstances, when they give some relaxation), otherwise you have to spend 4 years outside canada to be able to work again on twp. Mostly, people get PR by that time using any of many programs such as CEC, PNP or FSWs. Applying for PR from inside Canada has far better processing times than from other countries. Moreover, programs like CEC have a processing time of one year total.

3. LMO is labor market opinion. It is a permission from govt. of Canada which is granted to an employer that he can hire a foreign worker for a specific position. The intent behind this is to ensure Canadian jobs are not stolen and offered to temp foreign workers unless there are no qualified candidates for the job. It also ensures foreign candidates are paid equal to their canadian counterparts.

Thanks for the reply, my 3rd question is actually about a document people refer to as "A-LMO", i know what LMO is, but what is the "A" in that?

Another question, If i get TWP that lasts 1 year, and I am unlucky to get another TWP after, so i have to comeback to Portugal, do I have to wait 3 years in my home country to apply again for a TWP? :(

A-LMOs is an old program. They are no longer being issued. This used to be a way to get LMOs approved faster if the employer met certain criteria.

No - you don't have to wait another three years. Once you have a new job offer and a new approved LMO, you can immediately apply for a new work permit.
