Hi All,

1. I applied my PR this January and I am waiting for medical request. BUT I didn't check off my spouse as an accompanying family member. I will support him at some time later I received my PR.

2. I understand that I and my spouse have to be done medical once we got a medical request.

3. My spouse will go back home in a month due to health problem he will get a surgery in home country.

4. It will be fine if he could get done his medical before he goes back home. BUT we are not sure when we can get medical request. If he has to go back home before the medical request then what happened? Can I send an explanation letter to CIC to explain why he cannot take the medical? If so, it will be affected to my application delayed?

Hopefully I can get the medical request in 2 ~ 3 weeks.

Your spouse must have medicals before your application can continue. Your spouse can have the medicals in any country where he can find a Canada immigration designated doctor. You can check here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx If you need to delay the medicals because your spouse is recovering from surgery, you can let them know about the delay and it should be ok.

I would advise that you put down your spouse as accompanying because that way you both get PR and your spouse just has to land and if not yet ready to move can still stay outside Canada for up to 3 years. If you put down your spouse as not accompanying, you will have to apply to sponsor him later and this can take 1-2 years depending on your visa office.

Hello Leon,

Thank you for your response. So my spouse can take the medicals in any country? that is great. A doctor said he will need only a couple of weeks for recovering from surgery. I was worried if I have the medical request while he is not in Canada.

So I can send him home for surgery and wait to get the medical request then I will be done it Canada and he will be done in home country.

I will support him later and we understand it will take up to 2 years. There are some stories :)

Thanks Leon!!
