Hi Guys,

Question! Do I have to support my spouse's PR?

My husband has a open work permit as I hold it. My application is processing but I didn't check off him for accompanying due to personal reasons (there is possibility going back and forth to home country).

After I receive PR, my understanding is that he can extend a open work permit as I am PR in Canada.

But, Do I have to support my spouse's PR at some point even he does not need it?

Please response Thanks!

No, after you become a PR then your spouse will no longer have any access to an open work permit.

The only way he'll be able to enter Canada is as a visitor, or if he qualifies for some other status (worker or student) entirely on his own.

You never need to sponsor him for PR, but he still needs to be included in your current application as non-accompanying and do a medical exam.

Thanks Rob,

I have one more question. We will extend our open work permit in 2 ~3 month as our visa will expire next April. If I receive my PR after we received our open work permit then my spouse work permit is valid anyway? I will prepare my spouse's application sometime in October or November next year.
