What else should I provided to get a tourist visa??

Hi all,

My background is that I'm a Bangladeshi Citizen living and working in Australia as an Engineer on a Skilled Work Visa with a pathway to Permanent Residency.

A bit of a background on my attempts to get a tourist visa in Canada (directly by me and my parents when I was under 18).

These are attempts to visit my sister who's a citizen in Canada. I have no intention in staying in Canada anyways as I'm settled in Australia.
  1. Parents applied for a tourist visa in 2015 for us to visit Canada. Application was refused as my father didn't enclose a visa refusal for Canada (started the PR processs for Canada in late 90s but didn't go through with the application at the end so apparently inability to complete an application back then counted as a refusal and he didn't know)
  2. In 2016, I was in Australia as a student and wanted to visit my sister as she was about to give birth to my first niece. Visa was refused due to lack of supporting documentation (I provided my uni schedules, uni fee payments, accommodation and a letter from my father to support financially while I visited my sister)
  3. Just today (01/06/2023). I'm working full time as an Engineer in Australia and I'm on a Skilled Visa with a pathway to my Permanent Residency here. I wanted to visit my sister and her family for 3 weeks after not seeing them for over 5 years. Visa was refused as the visa officer mentioned that they weren't convinced I would come back from Canada. This one was annoying and hurt - I provided my bank statements, proposed travel itinerary, employment letter, employment leave approval, current residency status in Australia and invitation letter from my sister. I'm not sure what else I can provide to show that I genuinely want to be in Canada on a temporary basis to visit my sister

I'm stumped - the visa process is a mess. I've provided more documents than what is required because apparently that's what immigration in Canada wants to see but don't state in their website?

Furthermore if more documents are required why is there a limit to the amount of documents you can upload??

I'm shocked at how inefficient the whole process is to get a toursit visa. It's like you have to read their minds.

The process in Australia is so much more straight forward, you have to upload what they want and can upload as many supporting documents as required. PRs/citizens can even sponsor eligible family members and are held accountable to ensure their family members follow the visa conditions.

What can I do? Do Invite the visa officers to stay with me in Australia to see that I'm actually settled here and have no intention in illegally staying in Canada?

You can ask your Canadian sister to get a GCMS notes to allow you to see the notes behind your refusal.

Until you are applying for permanent residency or obtain permanent residency it will likely be difficult to visit. There may be a chance if you have a spouse and or children and they remain in Australia. Do you own a home in Australia? Were your parents ever able to obtain a TRV? If so, have they visited Canada?

Nope I'm single and do not own a home in Australia. My parents were able to get their toursit visa twice since 2015 and recently got their super visa.

It seems quite discriminatory. I'm settled in another country with a job, and where all my finances are and until I get a paper that says I'm from here, I can't apply for a tourist visa? Doesn't seem fair at all

Sad to hear that bro. Did you apply for a visa again or yet to apply. If you are yet to apply then i think this time you have a strong case. How much time before you get your Aussie PR? If possible apply after that.

If you have applied and rejected after showing job etc then thats messed up. You could appeal the decision. Thats a lengthy process

Countries set the rules on who they’ll issue visas for or admit . Australia is just the same , even more so . Vaguely remember some islands Australia uses to detain some arrivals. It’s not a right to enter another country , it’s a privilege

The fact that your parents have recently applied for a supervisa just creates more ties to Canada and more concern that you will want to remain in Canada to be with the rest of your family. I never said that you couldn’t apply for a TRV but your ties are not very strong. You have a job but that’s about it in terms of ties.

The concern is justified - but what else can I provide. Like I'm in a pathway to get my Permanent Residency in Autsralia and have a high paying job - I have provided both these supporting documents. Why would I Jeapordise that.

No interview request or request for further documents? They shouldn't have a tourist visa stream if they just blindly assess applications and determine outcomes.

There are no interviews or futher document requests. The decision is made based on the information you include in your application.

How close are you to having Aussie permanent residency status?
