Hello everyone,

I'm the sponsor of an outland spousal application. I'm suspecting we may not be receiving certain e-mails that we should be getting for my spouse, so am wondering what IRCC e-mails are supposed to be sent to the Primary Applicant.

When I linked our application to GCKey after receiving AOR1 via e-mail, I see the following message on the screen:
"By linking an application to this account, you are agreeing to have all correspondence sent to this account. This means that correspondence will no longer be sent to you by mail. This begins on the day that you link the account and applies to all future correspondence."

Does this mean either the Sponsor (me) or the Primary Applicant (my spouse) won't receive any future e-mail correspondence?

After I linked the application to GCKey on 2018/10/04, I received the "SA" e-mail on 2018/10/10 that says, "This confirms that your application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2018/08/17 [...] "

Earlier that day (2018/10/10), I received an e-mail that says, "You have a new message in your account for application: F000XXXXXX". When I logged into GCKey, I found the medical exam request for my spouse. However, my spouse didn't receive any e-mail regarding the medical exam request. Is this experience common?

Now, on ECAS, the Permanent Residence Application Status is showing a new message yesterday: "We started processing XXXXX's application on October 29, 2018."

Someone on this forum suggests that this message refers to AOR2. However, neither my spouse nor I have received any e-mail related to this. Should I expect some AOR2 e-mail to be sent to one of us?

The medical exam instructions that IRCC sent us display the correct e-mail address of my spouse, so I'm not worried there is any typo on their system with regard to my spouse's e-mail address. However, I'm worried if we might miss any important correspondence such as Additional Documents requested, etc., down the road.

Thanks much in advance!

if the sponsorship is linked to the account...you won't miss any correspondence as the messages will be sent to your account...you could also check status through ECAS and your online account......no worries about missing messages if your application is already linked.

Take the message "We started processing XXXXX's application on October 29, 2018." as your AOR2...as most visa offices do not send AOR2 email but just only update the status.

Most straight forward Outland Spousal Sponsorship follow these process steps (the order of the steps may vary)
  1. Application received at IRCC
  2. IRCC start processing application
  3. Receive Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR 1)
  4. Link Application to Online Account
  5. Upload Schedule A form
  6. Sponsor Approval and File transfer to VO
  7. VO starts processing PR application (AOR 2)
  8. Receive Request for Medical Exam
  9. Medical Exam @ IRCC Panel Physician Clinic
  10. Medical Exam Result
  11. Passport Request (PPR)
  12. Pick-up Permanent Residency Visa (PUM)
Spousal sponsorship process completion time varies depending on the Visa Office and on a case basis.......will advice you assume process completion takes 12 months to help reduce the waiting stress.......relax.....its a wait game.

Check your spam folders and the such. If they have the email correct, that's where all notifications should be going.

Thanks much for your responses, @Wakki and @monkeys89 !

By the way, @Wakki , I believe Schedule A is now required to be submitted up front (at least this is stated as a requirement in the Document Checklist IMM5533 when we applied in August 2018), so your Step 5 may no longer be applicable.

Thanks again!
