Hi guys,

In-land applicant here, just got my COPR and I am heading to the border on Saturday. I know that I am supposed to get a new SIN. I was just wondering what I need to do after that. Do I need to inform my bank, my employer, Revenu Canada, Revenu Québec and so on? Have I missed something? Thanks!

After landing, go to service canada and get a new SIN. Yes. you have to inform your bank, your employer. Once you are given a new SIN, it automatically changes in Canada Revenue Agency. This also reflected when tax is deducted from your pay. If you have online log in, you won't be able to access it anymore because your SIN has changed. You will have to create a new log in & password to access your account.

Meanwhile, be careful not to broadcast your new SIN so you can avoid the issues of identity theft.

Ah ok, that's good to know, thanks! I guess it's the same thing with Revenu Québec? What about health insurance (RAMQ)? Do they get notified automatically as well?

i'd also like to know whether i have to notify Revenu Quebec about the new permanent SIN or not?
