Dear All,

I plan to move to Canada this Nov/Dec along with my family and kids. Initial plan is to be there for one month, during which i would try to get my family settled there and then myself would fly back home. After a period of approx 3 months, i plan to go back to Canada for good.

Now my question is : During this initial one month stay of mine, what do you guys advise, should be the right and proper order of necessary steps i should be following.
Like for e.g. 1). Apply for Social Security Number (time required in terms of days)
2). Apply for PR card (time required in terms of days)
3). Apply for driving license (time required in terms of days)
4). Look for a house (time required in terms of days) etc etc. . . . . .

Appreciate if you could help me with the above query at the earliest, as i dont have much time in my hands and would like to MAKE THE MOST of the one month i would be there.
I am sure i am not the first one to have this question in my mind, as there are thousands of people who are planning to make this move and thus your answer could behighly beneficial to all of us.

Just kindly make sure to reply in chronological order of how things should be handled and applied for.
Thanks in advance and kind regards !!!

There are all things you should do as soon as you can...
In Canada you will apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN), you will do this in person at service Canada, it takes approx. 2 weeks to receive it in the mail.

Once you land in Canada you have 180 days (6 months) to get your address to CIC they will then mail you your PR card. Once CIC has your address it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get in the mail. You should have this card for travel. Maybe you can have your wife send it to you via courier. Link below can help you...

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/pr-card/index.asp

You apply for your driver's license in person and will receive it they same day, if your are exchanging you current license you must do so at a drive test center.

Looking for a house could take 1 day or 100+ days depending on what you are looking for, how much you plan to spend etc... this question can only be answered in terms of days by you.

Congrats! and Good Luck!

You need to come into Canada with some type of status. What is your current citizenship and have you obtained some type of status from the Canadian Government?
