Please share your experiences about the following:

What are the disadvantages or 'Pros & cons' of informing CIC about an absence longer than 2 months after filing one's "grant of citizenship application"? (Be noted: the candidate has never left Canada during the required 1095 days stay in Canada. He is only leaving after submitting his citizenship application.)

Also,

Is it just a required? ....or... it is seriously mandatory to inform cic?

What happens if you get a test date and inform after the test?

nomi if you are worried that you are breaking any law definetly not. you are not on house arrest. just consider cic has given us previlage to inform them so in case they send test date or communicate you for additional information they know your availability as re-sheduling a test date is hastle as they want to give chance to people first available rather than unavailable people. if you have someone checking your mail then no worries but make sure you get air booking available incase you need to prepond your return. it will be panic situation in case you are not able to come back in short notice but you can pay the price and come back by any first class or business seat if available

Does it mean that It's OK even if I don't inform? No questions asked when I come back for test?

My wife and children will remain in Canada. They'll regularly check post. Should I still inform? If I inform, will this lead to any delays?

What if I leave for 5-6 months and don't inform CIC at all?

You might be asked questions during your test whether you informed CIC or not and that may trigger RQ. CIC agents says if your file is not transferred to your local office and your absence for 2 month, informing over phone is OK where the agent will put a note on your returning date. When the file will be transferred to the local office and officer is about to issue test schedule and by then you might have returned or close to return. You can expect test date within 3-4 month or so from the date your file is transferred to the local office.

But, if u r leaving for over 2 months and file is already transferred to local office then you will have to send a fax to the local office on your absence and they will not schedule you for the test until you are back..

So, informing or not it all depends on you. But I think if your file is in the CIC system, you should call CIC agent to inform your absence which will not effect anything in your file processing unless you are absent for 5-6 month and in this way you will not be questioned on your absence during test/interview and will reflect your sincerity/honesty to the CIC.

In the other hand, taking chance leaving w/o informing CIC as you might think that you will cut back your trip and will appear test once your family receives the test letter might cost you if CIC starts look at your absence more closely..

I really interested to hear about someone experience in the interview, if they really care about 2 months absence after the application ( out of the claimed residence period) provided that the person got back to Canada before the test and having his usual job.

i think the truth is hidden inside us. if you are going on vacation to see your old parents or meet family not an issue. i think 2 months period to do a job outside canada is not feasible.. dont make life difficult by thinking so negative. cic just wants your sincerity and never lie. even at test if you are asked about recent travel just be truthful. as per rule you just need to prove your 1095 days
