Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
I'm 21 years old and have been in Canada for 4 years. My mom has been a PR since 1979. What are my chances if she sponsors me now? All my other siblings are Canadian Citizens or Residents. Don't ask me about the past it's complicated. Also can I stay in Canada while the application is being considered and hopefully processed? She meets all requirements to be a sponsor. Need to know what my chances are and value the opinions here.

If you are only 21 and not married or in a common-law relationship, she may (if you are VERY quick) be able to sponsor you as a dependant child under Family Class. You need to research this now as the age drops to 18 in January next year. Start here.... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-who.asp

I'll be 22 in December and I thought you had to be under 19 to be sponsored as a child......going to read your link now. Thanks!

I just read it and the cut off is 22.....how come everyone I talk to says 19? I just showed my Mom and we're getting on it right away! Thank you ! Do you know if I can stay during this process?

hi Taylor-Hall,

you are still eligible as of now but you and your mom has to act VERY fast, you are cutting off very close.
you will be able to stay on a visitor status of course you have to apply and pay the processing fees,as of work permit i am not pretty sure but you can check on CIC website for more details.
please do not listen to people who says you have to be 19,only get informations from professional and recognized immigration lawyers and make this website (www.cic.gc.ca) your primary source of information.

good luck :)

Thanks canadavisa13 feeling more positive now so glad I found this site....I have made so much progress over the past :) 48 hours just on this site ....then even paying $200 for a consultation with a lawyer last week who basically told me nothing.....

Hi canadavisa13,
I am aware about the new definition of CIC about dependent children effective Jan. 1,2014.
Does that mean the eligible age is 19 and below? Or 18 and below?
So if a child will be 19 years old on Feb 2014, is he still eligible to be considered as a dependent? It's kinda confusing.
Thank you for the answer.

18 and below. If CIC receive the application after the birthday, they will be excluded. See http://www.gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2013/2013-05-18/html/reg1-eng.html
