Dear All,

I am a new member in the Immigration Forum. It's really fantastic to be here to share a feelings about immigration matters.

My application under a skilled worker class had accepted on July, 2005. Now I am waiting for a response from the CIC. My agent here in Bangladesh has informed me that all the processing is now stopped for a decision from the Canadian Partliament. I do not know whether it is true or not. On the otherhand, I know, there is a new system already applied to the Canadian Immigration System from February,2008. If so, then what will be about our cases what are already pending for more than three years. Is there anybody to let me know in details about it ? I shall be glad to receive your feedback in this regard.

regards,
Muhammed Jahangir Alam

Your agent is wrong. Old applications are still going forward at the same rate they were going before. If you qualify to apply under the new system and think it might be faster for you, you can withdraw your application and apply again.

As far as I know, they are not actually clear on this on the CIC website but it does have in the FAQ a question about it and they do say you can withdraw your old application and apply again under the new system. This is at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/immigrate/skilled/skilled-faq09.asp

It does not actually say anywhere that I know of that you can't make a new application and not withdraw your old one but I think it goes without saying. They are trying to reduce the backlog, not make it bigger. If everybody decided to apply under the new system without withdrawing their old applications, that will do nothing to help the backlog, instead the same person may be taking even more resources. If you want to be sure whether you have to withdraw your old application or not before you apply under the new system, you should contact your visa office or embassy.
