Hi.
I would like to sponsor my boyfriend who I have dated for more than 3 years now.
His passport will be expired in 15 months (after that kinda hard to extend for personal reasons) and I really want to get that visa for him as soon as possible.

Here is our time line

2017/8/01: He moved in my apartment - his name wasn't in the lease, but we payed the rent for 2 people instead of 1 ( $20 extra). He changed his address in the bank so he received his credit card statement from that time.
2017/10: He (for his work and I (for my internship) both left Canada for 6 months. during this time period, we still regularly met each other in different countries (Mostly European countries) and even went back to Canada for a week - we indeed have lots of photos.
2018/5: We both moved back in the apartment (still his name is not in the lease). He renewed the driving license with this address.
2018/6: Created a joint bank account
2018/7/01: Moved to the new apartment. This time both of our name are in the lease. created a join utility bill account.

In this case, when is the earliest month we can apply?
Thank you so much.

The earliest you would be able to apply is May 2019 if you have evidence to prove you lived together at the same address from May to July 2018. Otherwise you would need to wait until July 2019.

My boyfriend’s renewed driving license in may 2018 + credit card statement + written confirmation from the landlady would be enough?

You should be OK with that.

Sorry I’m a little off topic here, but don’t they require at least 12 months of passport validity when landing? Which means you have to get approved and landing within 3 months? That’s sounds like a mission impossible

But please correct me if I’m wrong about the landing requirements

No. There is no specific 12 months requirement but the COPR expiry date (and if required, the IM-1 visa counterfoil) will be set to be the same as the expiry date of the passport or the date of the last medical examination validity, whichever is the earliest.
