Hey all,

I am currently watching three SP applications (for some of my dear friends):
1. Chinese applicant applying from Sweden, McGill Computer Science PhD (w/ Mila), applied May 27th, biometrics completed June 3, eligibility review not started (graduating MSc., no gap).
2. Chinese applicant applying from Canada, change of level, McGill Computer Science PhD (w/ Mila), applied Jul 19th, awaiting biometrics collection, eligibility review not started (graduating MSc., no gap).
3. Chinese applicant applying from China, McGill Computer Science MSc., applied Jul 25, biometrics done, medical passed 5th Aug, eligibility review started 5th Aug, AIP 5th Aug (graduating BEng., no gap).

I hope that these information help. And I hope people in the same boat share their info also.

Person 3 who applied last has their eligibility review started. It's strange. Or is it the fact that biometrics was done?

But person 1 who applied earlier with biometrics completed still do not have eligibility review started.

I've looked through many forums. It appears first stage approval is happening for the most recent applicants, but those who applied in May and earlier are still waiting, whilst those who applied in July and June are now getting first stage approvals. IRCC consular office dependent but it appears the most recent applications are being looked at first, eventually they might get back to the February applicants who are still waiting!

It is extremely frustrating. The university took 16 weeks to give an offer of admission, then CAQ took 13 weeks instead of 4 weeks, now study permit has taken so far 11 weeks and waiting. Total time now 40 weeks. Have part paid fees and paid first month's rent to university and yet daugher should be travelling in 11 days time!!!!

Are you all aware that USA nationals have been given a concession that no other nationality has been given, that is if they get their study permits, no matter when approved, they can travel. Currently no-one else with an approved study permit is allowed to travel unless it was approved before 18th March, basically only those who applied in January and early February and got approved 18th March.
