The visa office said that they cant request an extended medical because, it can only be requested a month before the expiry of the medicals. Is this true or not? When i read the CIC website that's not what it said. I did my medical( the first one) February 23 2012, then I got a passport request and redo medicals march 12. It's been expired for 2-3 weeks. I sent in my passport and I told them to request an extension on my medicals because that's all that is left. This is what they said;

Hello,

Kindly note that reassessment of medicals is only done a month to the expiry of those medicals. Hence in this case the medicals have already expired so she will have to undergo new medical assessment.

Regards,

So, I emailed them this on Friday, So I have to wait till Monday to see if they reply

When the final decision of an officer is pending due only to the expiration of a medical certificate or when the validity of the medical certificate is about to expire and the applicant is unable to land before it expires, the officer will:

Issue medical instructions for a new full routine medical examination done by a panel physician if the IME is older than 15 months;
Also

It is recommended that the officer issue medical instructions for a new full routine medical examination done by a panel physician if the results of additional testing are unlikely to be provided quickly.

If the opinion of the CIC MOF and/orHB delegated staff is that the applicant is:
Admissible on health grounds: a new medical certificate will be issued and will be valid for a 12 month period starting from the date of the new medical assessment;

My wife falls into this category, JUST REQUEST FOR AN EXTENSION OF THE Immigration Medical Exam!! It will take a few minutes to request it

Are they lying!!!

from what i know - after 15 months passed not 12
in our case they asked for extension almost 2 months after the medicals expired, so the first medicals were 14 months old which fitted the CIC rule
i don't think they r lying i think they just didn't understand the rule (or they were misinformed); of course that's no excuse but doing again the medicals should not give you too much headache; sometimes even the extension process might get longer and with no result (asking you to redo the medicals anyways)

From what I have read they can request a medical as long as the current certificate is not older than 15 months. However, if there were reasons for concern regarding the applicants medical history or where they currently reside (outbreaks...etc.) then they request for a new one.

I really hope your email changes their mind and they request an extension for your wife. The request only takes 10 days and it is done via email.

My wife is pregnant, would that be a reason for concern todo another medical? she can't do an x-ray. She can do everything else, that's why I wanted the extension and they lied to me before. They told me my wife was in an interview queue and then I come to know there are no interviews scheduled at all for the country she lives. Thanks for the response guys

Samstar, I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this hurdle when you seem so close to the end of the process and with your wife being pregnant. It is not mandatory for a visa officer to request a medical extension, it is their choice to ask for one. I hope when they receive your email that they reconsider their decision and request one for your wife. An extension does not always happen quickly either. Some people that have gotten extensions would have preferred to re-do their medical because they feel it would have been quicker. A medical extension was requested for my husband in February and we have not heard anything to date. I understand in your wife's situation she will not be able to have an x-ray so hopefully an extension will be requested and granted.

All the best to you and your family.

Thanks for the advice Naveah,

I fully understand it is not mandatory. I would just like them to attempt to get an extension. If it doesn't happen , well what can I do. I just want them to try, instead of making an excuse why they can't. Either tell me " No, we will not request a new medical" or "Yes we will attemp to request one". I can respect those two response, but when they tell me that her medical expired and they cant request one, when I know that if its withing 15 months they can request one. That's just wrong, We all paid money and sacrificed time to make sure we had all of our information, and that it was all truthful information. The least they can do is just be honest with us.

in general it's not the officer answering the emails it could b some secretary; she might not even forwarded ur email to the officer and just made her own judgement based on old facts ::) you could just answer that email with a link from CIC website with the bulletin in question - but be careful with your tone - always polite and respectful; say that based on your knowledge (from the link) she is eligible for an extension request and considering her situation (pregnancy) you hope they can kindly reconsider and request the extension; nice words can do wonders :) good luck!!

I will try the nice way this time. Instead of the harsh words with exclamation marks and capitals. Loool man I give these visa officers a hard time. I email them about 50 tunes a day and call them everyday. They know me on a first name basis. When I call they say "so and so what do you want now " I even got the laughing every time I call loool. Yea I just wrote them a nice letter lool

You guys are lucky at least your visa office actually request for an extension. Mine won't even request one, they said it must be requested on month before expiry of medicals. On the Cic website it says within 15 months of initial assessment. My medical exam expired 3 weeks ago. These officers are driving me bonkers!!
