Hello!

I live in Vancouver since September 2011, I came here with a visitor visa to study for 6 months and then acquired my student permit to start college. My question is, I want my mom to come to Canada with me, but it doesn't seem like I can do much and I would like this to happen as soon as possible. She has a long distance relationship with a Canadian Citizen for a couple of months now, he lives in Montreal and he wants her to come as well, but we're a little low in information. I thought about the family sponsorship but their relationship is below a year so this is not possible at the moment. I wonder if there's any way that she could get a visitor visa with my help or even a work permit, the only problem is that she doesn't have a degree so is hard for her to get sponsored by a company. Also, I will get a post-graduation work permit when I finish school, which will be in September 2013. Anyways, I just want to search all of the possibilities and ways of my mom being able to come to Canada soon, I thought of some Au Pair institutions as well, anything that could help hurry the process would be amazing. Just one last thing, my mom's american visa was taken away about 7 or 8 years ago due to be living there without a working permit, she was punished for 5 years by not being able to get a new visa until that time passed, would that have any repercussions on getting a Canadian Visa?

Thanks a lot and I would really appreciate the help.

She can apply for a visitor visa and come here as a visitor. Based on what you'e written, that's probably her only real option right now.

To obtain a work permit she first needs to find an employer in Canada who is willing to hire her. That employer must then obtain approval to hire here (LMO) and as part of this process prove they advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian to hire for the role. If the LMO is approved, your mother can then apply for a work permit.

To work as a live in caregiver, she must either have six months of full time schooling in a related field in the last three years or one year of full time paid work experience in a related field in the past three years.

She will have to declare that her American visa was taken away if she applies for a visitor visa or work visa. This will work against her.

In order for the Canadian Citizen to sponsor her, they would either have to be married or common law (common law means they have physically lived together at the same address for at least one full year).

Nothing will change when you get the post graduate work permit. The above will all still apply.
