Hello everyone! New to the forums here.. I'll start with some info. I really do appreciate any help here, as i am very overwhelmed with all of my requirements. I'll gladly supply any other information as it's needed.

The basics:

31 year old male from Texas USA. Lived in the states all my life. Happily employed as an automotive technician with a very well known car dealership, no criminal record or anything like that that would keep me from working or applying to move to Canada. Looking to stay with either a temporary work visa, or a full out permanent resident/citizenship. But I need more info.

Long story short: Met a girl in Canada online that i've been talking to for four wonderful years. We have become very close now in the last 2 years, and had our first visit recently. In which i stayed for two wonderful 2 weeks. Absolutely fell in Love with the country and even more with the girl! We talked about our options as far as moving and she is unwilling to move to the states due to family/pets which means it leaves the burdens on my shoulders to move there if we want to be together as things sit right now.

There is always the option of staying there for up to 6 months as a visitor, but that means I would have to quit my job here.. meaning i'd have no income there. She has no problem supporting me while i'm 'visiting' there, and i'd obviously be bringing my own money as well, but I do not want to put that burden on her, and I want to be able to sustain myself. Problem is that going to Canada is easy.. working there seems to be very hard as an 'outsider'. I'm also not sure if I want to visit and work at this time, or apply as a permanent resident or even a citizen right away (which i know is a long long wait time) (not sure how dual citizenship works exactly.)

My questions are as follows.. I know about the points system requirements, i've done the questionnaire online where i fill in all my info. I fill it out for 6+ month temporary worker.. But unless i say i have written proof of a job before applying, it will tell me im not eligible under any federal programs. My question is, how am i supposed to have a written offer from an employer if i do not reside in Canada to find one? Could I go there to visit for 6 months and try to find a potentialjob then while supporting myself? Or is it going to be hard to apply for a work permit while in Canada if I find a job while im

Do I have to visit there, try to find someone that will hire me while im there, and then hope they will wait on me while all of my temporary work visa forms are applied for and approved, and then move there? I hope the above question makes sense.. Its very confusing to me. I really want to work while im there, especially if it turns permanent (I can make the decision to go from a temporary worker to apply for permanent residency while im there, correct?)

I have other questions to as far as moving there and how to take care of all of that, but i'll leave it as this for now. Were going crazy here trying to figure out how to take care of this, and no one i've talked too locally seems to have any concrete answers.

Looking forward to any and all replies! Very excited to finally start the life I've been looking for all my life, but very nervous about how much work and effort its going to take.

1) In some countries, there are agencies that help locals get job offers in Canada for work. The US doesn't have any that I know of. You can also post your resume on jobsite like www.monster.ca, search for jobs on your own, and contact shops. If your girlfriend has any contacts, she can talk to them as well. You can get a job outside Canada, but it's just difficult - regardless of where you are.

2) Yes, you are allowed to visit and look for legal work.

3) Basically, you visit, find an employer to give you a LMO, then you get a work permit. If the employer doesn't have a LMO yet, you can count on it taking 2-4 months to get the LMO and work permit.

4) As a US citizen, you can basically "visit" Canada in a manner that's similar to living here, except no working, studying, and no healthcare in most places. I'm also a US citizen and I have visited since July 2011. I have made my home here, rented an apartment with my Canadian husband, adopted a cat, made friends, and gotten healthcare and health benefits through my husband. (In Alberta.) I have searched for work (without luck). I'm allowed to attend online university with a US school as well - which is how I'm spending my time not going insane!

5) I hope you enjoy cold weather and really strict gun laws. ;)
