Hello everyone,

I found a company to help sponsor my work permit, and since I was desperate I did all the work along with my attorney and paid all of the fees associated with it. It was completed and I have a work permit but I'm treated terribly. They have a high turnover and I now I know why they were eager to sponsor me. They really need me and they "know" I can't go anywhere for 2 years. If I quit my job will I have to leave Montreal immediately? Could another company in the same field hire me??

Please help.
Thank you.

You can report the company treatment to CIC.
Whats the company name? And what kind of work?

Ps. Record on your phone some of the bad conversation u face at work, just to have some proof.

What type of work permit is it?

I recently got a NAFTA work permit. which is a closed permit. My understanding is that even if I leave the job/get terminated, I am still entitled to stay in Canada for the remainder of the permit's length (though not work, unless I get a new permit)

I don't know if Quebec has different rules, but as far I know you can still in Canada after lose your job and, probably after quit, however I suggest you to call CIC before do that.

You cannot work in other position nor company except with a new WP, consider start to look for another job with LMIA immediately.

Some information:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/tfw-rights.asp

If job conditions are unfair you could quit but I strongly recommend don't do that before ask your Provincial work services to provide some help/counsel.

I also recommend to think in your future, if you're working under a NOC B,A or 0, you have a good opportunity to get Permant Resident through EE CEC after one year working with your current LMIA, you'll need some letters for your employer to support it.

Play it smart, try to negotiate a better treatment in your current job, keep records/proof of the issues (not just your word); ask for counsel from Provincial work offices and look for a new job, all of them before quit (except if conditions are absolutely bad, but you'll need probes to support a possible claim).

If you can survive one year, fill the PR application with some company letters, you'll probably be free less than 6 months after apply.

If you're working under NOC C you should look for other ways to get PR.

Even if working as NOC B,A or 0, there are different options for PR, perhaps you can apply right now if you have proper foreign experience.
