This is regarding proof of funds to show during landing.

I just want to double confirm, if we can show the proof of funds as CDs (Certificate of Deposit) as well other than checking, savings or money market accounts.

Someone please confirm on this.

the visa office instructions guides say the proof of funds can be submitted in the following forms.

1. bank statements.
2. bank certification letter.
3. fixed or time deposit statements.

i think the CD (certificate of deposit) falls under the #3 above. so i think it should be OK. let someone else (who actually submitted CDs with his application) reply.

Refer to the new role for “proof of funds”. You MUST provide a bank statement(s) showing all transaction for the last six months at least, and confirming the current balance with a bank statement. Moreover, the current balance should be equivalent to the minimum required Funds at the time you send the application.

Now, A letter of solvency providing the current balance of your accounts(s) or the average credits and debits in your account(s) is not acceptable evidence anymore for the Visa office .

For more information you have to check the “Visa Specification Instructions” guide.

Good luck.

solie, the poster is not asking about "the letter of solvency providing the current balance" (bank letter in other words). he is asking about "certificate of deposit", which is what you get when you fix or time deposit an amount with a bank.

by the way, would you mind sharing where this "new" rule of proof of funds is stated? since you are referring to visa office instructions guide, which office instructions guide has this "new" rule? my visa office is CHC islamabad and doesn't have any such "new" rule under proof of funds. please share the source for this "new" rule for the benefit of others.

thanks.

As per my understanding, It is more than enough if you can show the required funds in a Bank in Canada or as Liquid cash.
It is no where stated that the funds need to be on you when you land. It however states, that if you are carrying more than 10K Canadian dollars or its equivalent in any currency, you should declare such an amount at the port of entry.

If you have an account in a Bank in Canada and you can show that you have transferred the required amount into that account by showing a statement, then, that should suffice.
