Hello CV community,

I have recently graduated from an institution and now hold a 3 year Post Graduate Work Permit ( Valid until 2016 ).

I plan to get married in December this year.

It depends on if your wife to be is visa exempt or not and if you have a skilled job.

If you do not have a skilled job, you are not entitled to bring your wife. If she is visa exempt, she can visit. If she is not, she can apply for a visit visa she may or may not get, same as anybody else.

If you have a skilled job, you need a letter from your employer describing your position so that it falls into some category immigration will see as skilled. If your wife is visa exempt, it would be best that you bring her to Canada with you along with your letter from employer, your work permit and marriage certificate and $150 to pay for her work permit. You would present her on entry to Canada as your wife coming to get her open work permit based on your work permit and she will get it instantly. If you have a skilled position but your wife is not visa exempt, she would have to apply for an open work permit from outside Canada and she may be refused if she is unable to sufficiently prove to immigration that she has strong ties to her home country and will not overstay. She could also apply for a visit visa from outside Canada and apply for the open work permit from inside Canada later on.

Thank you for the prompt reply Leon.

I have a skilled position, but my wife is not visa exempt. So I guess she would have to apply for an Open Work Permit from outside Canada ( which she may be refused ).

Few follow up questions.

I am eligible to apply for PNP since I have a premanent position!

Once I get my PNP , does the procedure to bring my wife here change? Will it increase her chances to be able to come here with an open work permit or maybe a dependent visa ?

Or Should I wait till I get my PR for her to apply to come here ( in which case Im hoping it would be gauranteed.

Thank you again Leon and CV community.

I believe that once you have been approved for PNP, you and your family overstay problems should not be an issue any more and it would be easier for her to get a work permit. You can try it with the TRV now. If you are refused, try for open work permit when you get your PNP nomination. If for some reason that doesn't work out either, she is included on your PR application anyway so she will get PR at the same time as you and then there will be no problem.

Dear Sir
Dont know how to use the forum and thought i just bother you here with my qestions.

Canadian citizen to sponsor an oversease spouse, there are two set of forms to do, one for sponsor another for sponsored person, and sponsor is asked to gather all and send all together to CPC-M. However as a sponsor living in Quebec, the guidance 3900, 3999 stated, only two forms in the first set are needed, Imm1344 and IMM554, to apply for federal eligibility approval, and then you continue with Immigration Quebec for CSQ.

My question is do i still need to do the other set of forms that sponsored spouse is asked to do, and send it to CPC-M with my initial file? it is not clear for the check list that Federal asks to use.

Thanks ocean!

For Quebec, you do all the same forms as for Canada normally but immigration will make sure to get the CSQ (approval from Quebec immigration). If you only send the forms for the sponsor and not for the sponsored person, your application is incomplete.
