Hello,

I am on PR with FC1 status. I wanted to know how long i should be living Canada before i apply for Canadian citizenship. My husband is already a Canadian. would i also need to complete for the 1095 days like other new immigrants.

please advise me.

Hi Dominica,

Yes you would. If you marry a citizen you can apply for PR status directly but you need to complete the residency obligations in order to apply for citizenship. As it stands now until the new rule is implemented you need to stay in canada 3 out of 4 years. When the new rule is implemented you need to accrue 4 out of 6 years before you are eligible to apply.

Also you should read this thread where member dpenabill gives the perfect explanation :

Thanks Samreetariq, but is this new rule going to be for people already in Canada or will apply for new immigrants from 2015 onwards. Read some where it will come inforce from this Summer.

The new rule will apply to everyone. It doesn't matter when you became a PR or arrived in Canada. What matters is when you submit your application for citizenship.
