I applied inland for PR through spousal sponsorship thinking theyd get back to me within 2 weeks with at least ackowledgement that theyd received it and its complete.

Its been over a month and ive still heard nothing..

I had a fall on saturday which had an amblance pick me up at take me to ER so the hospital and insurance is on me about contacting OHIP to get back onto that. my first 6 years in canada on a work permit had me on OHIP before (if this makes a difference?)

Can anybody shed some light on how i can prove to OHIP that im awaiting a PR application to potentially get back onto it before im stuck with a massice deductible or even worse an entire hospital bill?

PR applicants are not eligible to receive OHIP. you either need to wait until you are approved and landed as a PR (Assuming you applied outland), receive the inland OWP and prove 6 months of continuous full time employment with an employer, or go through major hoops with the OHIP approval board to seek approval before then.

The third option is a very lengthy and difficult process. it first requires you to be denied OHIP coverage, then writing to the OHIP approval board ( i forget the name of it) to request your eligibility be re-evaluated. This also requires you to receive proof from CIC that your application is under review, and that you technically are considered "approved in principle" -even though this is part of the inland process, outland applicants technically can get this information too. is not a guarantee of coverage, and not everyone who appeals the initial denial of coverage gets it. I forget which member on here wrote a breakdown of the process. for some reason i think it's either ROB_TO or Keesio? Again, this isn't an easy option, nor guaranteed it will work. The person who wrote about the process acknowledges the difficulty of it. It's certainly not going to be a quick fix for your current issue.

If you decide to research the third option and are approved for OHIP through appeal, then you may be able to submit your current bills for reimbursement at a later date. At this point, you are not eligible for OHIP, and any medical needs you have must be paid for out of pocket or through travel insurance (which can be very limited).

I am inland if that helps. It seems itll just be as long and painful to appeal.
$500 deductible isnt too bad i suppose providing my health insurance covers it.
Should have spent the extra 500 for no deductible haha

No it doesn't. the only way it would help is that it will presumably be easier to prove your "approval in principle (AIP)" if you choose to apply for OHIP, get denied and appeal the decision. it doesn't matter if you are inland or outland. PR applicants are NOT eligible for OHIP except for when they have a work permit and can prove 6 mo. continuous full time employment. you'll have to pay the bill out of pocket or whatever insurance you are using outside of OHIP.

What kind of insurance plan are you on? Is it from a Canadian company, and for travel emergency insurance? If so they should not be asking about OHIP since that wouldn't be a requirement for the insurance. If you had an accident and went to hospital, they should cover everything minus deductible no matter that you don't qualify for OHIP.

My friend do not take no for an answer

Appeal to the OHIP Eligibility Review Committee, you not losing anything especially, I had similar issue with the OHIP but I’m under different class (CEC):
The law: Regulation 552: Health Insurance Act
5. Being a person who has submitted an application for permanent residence in Canada to the proper federal government authority, even if the application has not yet been approved, as long as Citizenship and Immigration Canada has confirmed that the person meets the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residency in Canada, and the application has not yet been denied.

So if you have anything from CIC approves that you application is being reviewed or in process, then prepare package and send it to Kingstone Ontario.

Take look at this thread might be useful:

Regarding the private insurance Rob is correct as long as you’re covered you should be fine. Unless you had them insure you according to your existing OHIP plan, I had the same situation where private insurance company will only give me Visitors to Canada insurance plan, since I was out of OHIP status.

Good luck
