Waiting for wife's PR application to be processed- extend stay as a visitor?

This question was difficult to search for, so apologies if it has been asked recently.

My wife and I have applied INLAND for her Family Class Spouse-Sponsored Permanent Residence permit. She is Korean and is in Canada on a 6month visitors visa that is about to expire. Her PR application has not even been looked at yet which means she has over a year and a half of processing time ahead.

I understand we need to complete form IMM5708E to extend her stay but in question 2 there is no clear option to extend a visitor visa. On question 2 below, which option is applicable to her?

2. I am applying for one or more of the following:
__ * Extension of my temporary resident status.
__ *Restoration of temporary resident status as a visitor.
__ *Initial temporary resident permit or extension of temporary resident permit.

Also, when asked how 'long do you plan to stay?', should I select 1 year?, 2 years? or what?

Can't tell you what you should do but I'll tell you what we did as we are in a similar situation. If your wife is visa-exempt, select 'extension of temporary resident status'. As for how long the extension should be, I asked for a year and mentioned that current processing times for Stage 1 inland applications are 11-12 months. Asking for 2 years would be pushing it, and worst case scenario, they'll give her 6 months as per her initial visitor's visa.

Check "Extension of my temporary resident status" in question 2. Ask for a one year extension. If you have a PR application pending and she has the means to provide for herself that will probably be granted without a problem. My Korean wife went through the visitor's visa extension process last year and had no problems. Good luck.

Did you submit an OWP application along with the inland PR app? If so, then she would be on "implied" status in Canada until she got OWP (after around 11 months based on current times), so wouldn't even need to extend visitor status.

In practically all cases, there is not much reason that a visa-exempt applicant should ever apply inland. In hindsight, she should have submitted an OUTLAND application processed in Manila. She would most likely have gotten full PR status, in around the same time just stage 1 takes for inland and could have easily stayed in Canada during entire processing time as visitor, plus would have been able to easily leave and re-enter Canada as she wished during processing. But that is water under the bridge now.
