Hello,

Let me apologies first as I know a similar question would have already been asked.

I was wondering if anyone has had any first hand experience entering Canada as a visitor but will be waiting for their PR or if anyone knows of anyone who has done this before.

I want to come to Canada in 2 months time to join my partner and wait for the PR. Just don't know if CBSA will be awkward or if they have access to know my PR application is currently being processed. I will have a return ticket booked. Does the ticket have to be within 6 months? Would it matter if its a few weeks over that?

Let me add I have been in the UK since birth/UK Citizen so I am Visa Exempt and would be landing in Toronto Person International.

Thanks in advance :)

i would recommend having a return ticket within 6 months. having a ticket outside the 6 month allowance could trigger secondary inspection, as it's a bit suspcious someone would have a ticket over the allowed time without previous permission. it's always best to carry your receipts for fees/medical paid and any communication from cic. also, showing proof of ties back to your home country (housing/employment) in case they inquire. don't worry about traveling. once they ask about the pr application, most likely they will look it up in your system with your passport and not even ask for proof. it is very unlikely a pr applicant is denied entry, unless it appears they are "moving" before they are approved. as long as you understand you are "visiting" and your residence is your home country, there shouldn't be any concern.

We asked for advice from the Canadian embassy before leaving and they told us that it should be fine with a return ticket and that we should just explain that we have the PR application in. In our case the officer didn't even ask to see any papers or the ticket, he just asked twice about my return flight and then he stamped the passport. Soon my 6 months are up and I'm applying for an extension.

Gee, when will you get your freaking PR? We were synced for a while there... I feel for you!

Thanks for all the information. Ill make sure my ticket is within 6 months. Ill still have my house, about my employment not so sure ill have that one.... :S I can take CIC proof with me thats not a problem. I will be traveling with my partner if thats any help.

Should I then be updating my mailing address for CIC to my current Canada Address? I understand if an interview is required I would have to go back to England but they can send my CoRP to an address in canada right?

Wait till you arrive in Canada to update your address to a Canadian one.
