Question. Is there any restrictions to being a volunteer at a school, hospital, church etc, while waiting for PR?

My sponsor is my wife of 24 years who is a Canadian citizen that has been living as a resident alien in the USA since 1968. We filed outbound and will be moving sometime this summer, possibly prior to my receiving my PR.

While I am in Canada waiting for my PR, I was intending on doing volunteer work. Hence my question.

Yes - there are restrictions.

If you voluteer for a role that someone could be paid to do - then this is the equivalent of working and may get you into trouble. If you volunteer, you should make sure it is in a role that no one is ever paid to do (i.e. a role that is always filled by volunteers).
