Hello all , we have filed a family sponsorship pr application already with out an open work permit , I'm here on a visitor record that states I'm waiting for my application , my first visitor record stated I must provide proof of filling for an extension .we applied for an extension it got denied because the documents were not filed correctly , now we applied for restoration of status which I hope also means we applied for an extension . any way I've become involved with the United church of Canada because it is my wife's denomination . and as you know there is allot of idle time wile waiting . I do house projects etc , but the annual Sunday outing with the good people is joyful ..................my question is when we entered into Canada they said at the border that I couldn't work paid for or not , couldn't volunteer , couldn't study etc .......since I'm involved in the church and have free time id like to do some bible studies ,,,, is this in violation of my terms maybe , I'm also proficient with computers and have thought of building a website for our local church with out pay just to help , I haven't even offered yet though . I also was asked to help with local bake sales etc but have shied away because I felt it might be volunteering .... can any one give a professional answer to the question can I help with church type things

You're fine to help with bake sales and the bible studies - but building the web site is definitely a no.

Volunteering is allowed provided it's the type of work people aren't paid to do. Building a web site is typically/often something someone is paid to do - and therefore would be classified as illegal work and a violation of your visitor status even though you aren't being paid.
