Voluntary Departure - Appeal?

I just want to give a general scenario.

My Visa extension was rejected and I have been sent a Voluntary Departure Order. I contacted many lawyers and they've all told me the following. I want to know if this is true.

-They told me because I can apply for a Humanitarian PR, I am able to apply for a Restoration while I wait for my case to be processed. I assume they told me that, because the Restoration process takes about 90 days, which according to the lawyers, is usually the amount of time they give you to leave Canada.

I'm not sure if I should do that. Wouldn't that ruin my chances? I will eventually get contacted by Immigration regarding that Restoration. Wouldn't I get in trouble? I mean, I'd be doing this legally and through a lawyer, and I'd be prepared to leave Canada immediately if that Restoration is rejected.

I'm a bit confused. Is the information they're giving me true? The lawyers are highly recommended.

Thanks.
