I am asking on behalf of a family friend. They are permanent residents in the final stage of their citizenship process. They want to invite their parents for visitation. They have not travelled or seen their parents for 5-6 years. The family came into Canada as international students but later made a refugee claim and was approved. Would the past refugee claims affect their parents' family visit visas?

Yes, absolutely. Their parents will have more of a difficult time as VOs will think they will claim asylum once they reach Canada. The parents will need a strong profile - funds, travel history, strong ties to home country and strong reasons to return. May want to consider meeting in another country, if refused.
