Does visitors or tourist visa needs letter of invitation from someone who lives in canada...or can the person apply just for seeing the country and returning back,,if he got enuf funds and ties with back home?

Hi every one.. I am Sushma presently pursuing my masters(M.S) in USA. I would like to visit one of my friend in Canada. I have started filling some of the applications forms in online. But i was struck with some information with respect to the invitation letter, purpose of visit (what would be the major difference between those two letters). And also what all are the required documents i need to gather for applying the visa. What would be the time duration to get the visa approved from the date of application? What is the fast procedure to get the visa approved by applying through in person or else through online. Could anyone of you suggest what would be the best way to proceed and also the required documents that i need to present.

invitation letter comes from a friend, purpose of visit - you can write a letter to VO that you plan to visit Canada for a friend-bounding.

And also what all are the required documents i need to gather for applying the visa. What would be the time duration to get the visa approved from the date of application? Apply online. All required documents are listed there. There is no harm of applying thru online if you dont want to proceed just don't login and pay.
