Visitor's Extension of Stay: Wait for CIC's reply for cross the US border??

Hi,

I am a PR of Canada, and my son (minor) has been staying with me as a visitor since September. On his passport, he has a stamp that says he can stay until March 6, 2017. I should have applied for an extension of visa earlier, but because what a CIC officer I spoke on the phone said was confusing and I was caught up with other things last year....and was finally able to apply for an extension of stay online today (Feb 21 2017). Now, the CIC Web site says the current process time for online application is 40+ days! That means whether the extension will be granted for my son or not, he will not receive a reply from CIC before the expiration date on his passport...

Should I take him to the US for a day trip to avoid him staying with valid document? I live in Vancouver (1.5 hrs from border) but I don't own a car. I'd like to avoid unnecessary road trip if he can stay here legally by my printing out application receipt from CIC, etc...??

I'd appreciate your advice! Thank you in advance.

Es.

If you have applied for an extension of his visa, he is on implied status until IRCC approves or declines the extension.

Don't do this. It is like trying to outsmart the system and getting into the line of people that have applied following the rules.

CBSA officers are well trained to detect this and can give you a very hard time for this.

As the previous poster mentions, he is on implied status. No need to do anything else.
