Visitor visas - Multiple - 10 year visa for parents

Hi,

I am in Canada on my study permit and my wife on a open work permit.

I wish to invite my parents early next year to visit us. Can they apply for multiple 10 year visa?

Also, at the port of entry can they request the immigration officer and extend their stay for greater than 6 months? Is it ok to request the immigration officer?

Yes - they can certainly try application for a multiple year visa.

I would recommend against asking for a longer than six month visit at the border. I think this will make it sound like they are trying to live in Canada - something they are not allowed to do. If they wish to stay longer, they should file an extension before the end of their visit.
