Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice when applying for a visitor’s visa to come see my boyfriend in Canada. Here is some background info:

* We met twice already this year. Last January where he visited me here in the Philippines and in April when we travelled to Malaysia together
* He invites me to celebrate my birthday on November in Canada and to watch a concert on Nov. 3
* I already have his signed invitation letter and some personal documents.

My questions are:

-Do I apply for tourism and list my boyfriend or do I apply to visit friends and list him?
-Do you think I should apply for a tourist visa and leave him off entirely?
- Is it true that mentioning you'll be visiting your boyfriend is a red flag for visa officers?

Thanks a lot!

Listing your boyfriend versus saying you are visiting for tourism is a catch 22. Unless you have a significant international travel history especially to counties like the US, UK, Australia, etc. there will be questions as to why you want travel to Canada of all places which is both far away and expensive. Not your typically entry level travel location feom Asia if you don’t have family or friends in Canada because of the distance and expense. If listing that you have a boyfriend in Canada there will be concerns that you may not be planning on leaving Canada. If you list your boyfriend as a fiend it will be assumed he is your boyfriend.
