Good Day Everyone,

Myself and my fiancee have been together for 4 years. We have shared a residence in Bogota, Colombia for over 2 years and against all odds (according to her MD) we became parents to a son born in September of 2021. I was born and raised in Canada.

My question is this...I have applied for our son's Canadian citizenship but have been told that this could take up to a year to process. We want to go back to Canada as I have started a business there and I want to know what options are available? We dont want to wait until our sons citizenship is approved. I have heard we could just get a visitor's visa and just keep extending it. Is that possible?

I am hoping someone can answer that for me.

Thanks in Advance!

TRV is not possible for your son since he is a citizen. You should apply for a temporary Canadian passport instead.

Is your fiancee already Canadian?

Okay..so are you saying that we cannot bring him to Canada until his registration is complete/approved? Temporary Canadian Passport? How can I do that if he hasn't been recognized by the govt as of yet?

Fiancee is Colombian..so just trying to see if a Visitors Visa with extensions would be the way to go. Thanks for your input as I am totally clueless about this. I thought as soon as my son was born it would be a straight forward process...not so much..lol

I am saying that you can get a temporary passport while you wait for the citizenship. You don't need to get proof of citizenship in order to get the temp passport. Follow instructions here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/travel-documents-non-canadians/temporary-passport.html

For your fiancee, a TRV (visitor visa) is the way to go to get her into Canada to start. But once she is here, you should really sponsor her for permanent residency and not simply apply to extend her visit over and over again (sooner or later that won't work). A TRV is for visiting only not for living in Canada.
