Hi there,

I have applied for my mother's visa in December 2013 successfully. A single entry Visa was issued for a period of 6 months Until May 2014. My mother actually came to Canada in February 2014 and on her arrival, immigration stamped her passport with no mention of departure date. I have read on the CIC website that if an immigration Officer does not stamp or hand write or provide any document mentioning about the period of stay, it is 6 months from the date of arrival. If it is the case, it would exceed the period of her Visa validity. Is that ok? or do I have to file for an extension?.

Also is there any email or contact # for CIC Office that I can double check?. Appreciate any response.

The VISA allows you to enter Canada, not to stay in Canada. Important difference ;)

These are two different dates

May xx 2014 was the date the visa was valid until---this was the date that your mother could use the visa until to enter Canada. Once she enters Canada this date means nothing.

You are correct that she has six months from the date of her arrival in Canada, so whatever date in August 2014.
