Hi all,
My mother got visitor visa for 6 months. She got visa on 20th January 2011 and is valid for 6 months upto 20th July 2011. She is planning to come to Canada in first week of June. My question is does she have to leave canada by 20th July or will she get 6 months stay from the date of landing?
Thank you all for reply

No. Depends on how long the POE granted her time to visit

When your mother enters Canada they will stamp her passport with the date of entry. Two things can happen:

1) They write nothing under the date stamp. Her visitors status in Canada is valid for six months after the date of entry.

2) They hand write a date under the stamp. She must leave by that date. They may attach conditions to her visit. Be certain that you honor these conditions.

In either case, she can apply for an extension.

They ask that the extension application be submitted 1 month before the temporary status expires. However, they still accept applications up to the date the temporary status expires. She can apply for an extension online, however realize that the application processes more quickly, but you have explicit proof of her implied status while the application processes. You can also mail the extension application. It takes longer to process the application. You have no explicit proof that she is on implied status. They must receive it in their office before your mother's status expires.
