I am a Canadian PR and recently submitted the sponsorship application for my wife on Feb 1, 2012 to CPC-M.
Soon after our wedding, we had applied for a visitor visa for my wife and it got rejected. We both are Indian Citizens. My wife is currently unemployed. Reasons given by Visa officer were:

1. Family ties in Canada and in your country of residence.
2. Travel History
3. Your current employment situation

Now since her PR is going to take months, we would like to take a second shot at visitor visa, so that she can at least come here for a few months before her passport is requested for PR visa stamping, at which point she can go back to India and complete the PR formalities, so that she can come back here as a PR permanently. Now my question is, what do we do different this time to convince the visa officer? We are planning to apply after we receive the file number, so we can quote that file number and say that we have already applied for sponsorship and she has to go back to India in any case for stamping, even if she is living here with me for a few months.

Any ideas, suggestions? What extra documents should we include to strengthen our visitor visa case?

Thanks
Nakash

Hi Nakash,

I'll suggest you to wait till the PR application passes through certain stage and then re-apply. Travel History and Ties- the reasons they pointed out will always be their main reasons for refusing later on as well...normally the visa officers don't base their decision on whether you have applied for PR or not, though its always helpful to point out that you have applied for PR but it doesn't help in their ultimate TRV decision.

For TRV - you have to show your wife has employment- shes only going to Canada to visit you and she will return back within a stipulated time..
For country ties - she should be able to show that her family - parents, siblings etc all live in your home country....
Now travel history i dont think that can improve you know, and alot of people get refused because of this. They want to know in the past if you or your wife were given visa then you left that country within the allowed time. I am guessing shes travelling abroad for the first time?
