Hi,

I am planning to visit my cousin who has been at Calgary for more than 6 years. Its a 2 month visit and I had applied through VFS at India. It got rejected on the grounds of insufficient funds and family ties.

Details of myself: I am currently working in a university, after graduating with B.Tech in CS and worked at Infosys for 2 years.

Visit details: My cousin brother is financing my whole trip, and has provided the invitation letter, the T4 doc, the driver's license and the immigration letter.

I had not submitted my income tax returns earlier, so I would submit in the second application.

How much funds is required for such a travel, even though my cousin is funding the trip?

What are the other documents required for satisfying the visa officer?

Will going to the embassy at Delhi directly for visa application improve my chances of getting the visa?

Hoping for a reply soon.

Cheers!

Do a search in the top right hand white box on the main forum page. Look for visa refusals, ties to home country, etc. You have to think of all the things that draw you back to India. Getting a letter from your employer granting your leave and expectation of return on xxx date may also help. Include proof of international travel you have done. This shows you have returned home and have the money to afford holidays. This shows you are established in your home country. Having someone in Canada invite you and pay for everything actually makes your tie to Canada stronger (it IS so frustrating!) Show that you have enough money to pay your own way. Definitely include all your financial assets, property. Cars and jewelry will not be helpful. Include any family ties (spouse, children, dependent parents). Good luck.

Pippin's advice is very useful. I wish to complement it with few comments as a frequent traveler - 12 visas - no refusals

Me: From ur comments above u hv a strong case for a successful application - employed in academia, have a relative who is possibly a citizen for d length of time he/she have bn in Canada...

Visit details: My cousin brother is financing my whole trip, and has provided the invitation letter, the T4 doc, the driver's license and the immigration letter.

me: That u did not fund any part of your trip creates suspicion. Try pay for a part of the trip this time

I had not submitted my income tax returns earlier, so I would submit in the second application.

me: Whether u r paying for ur trip or not , visa officers always want proof that u hav financial means back home. so always include pay slips and ur salary bank statements. also add a note covering any unusual deposits into ur account

How much funds is required for such a travel, even though my cousin is funding the trip?

me: You should have an idea by doing ur own search. Visa officers are naturally suspicious of all potential visitors so avoid giving dem an excuse to be suspicious.

What are the other documents required for satisfying the visa officer?

Visit the Canadian embassy visa pages for a checklist u wil find all info u require

Will going to the embassy at Delhi directly for visa application improve my chances of getting the visa?

me: There is no need going directly to the embassy as the visa application centre is procedure. u only need visit if u r invited or if u submitted an appeal or protest to a visa denial decision. Reapplying is better if u r not using d services of a lawyer to appeal

Any more questions pls let me know.

Hoping for a reply soon.

Cheers!

you have to satisfy the officer that you will go back after the visit

Some thing which they look at
1) Funds/job situation in India
2) Assets and family ties which will bring you back
3) Travel history to show that you have visited foreign countries and come back

Invites are not enough, and if you are between age 20-30 with virtually no travel history and a paperwork to show that you will return then its very very tough to get visa
You can try again but very less chance of getting it if you don't have the right paperwork, sometimes booking a tour package might help
